On July 9th, the Seoul Central District Court is set to commence the first appeal trial for A, a woman in her 50s accused of stalking Jung Eun-ji, a prominent public figure.

This follows A's initial conviction earlier this year on charges related to stalking.

In January, the first trial court had handed down a sentence of one year in prison, with an additional two years of probation for A.

Moreover, A was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 won, perform 120 hours of community service, and undergo 40 hours of lectures aimed at preventing repeat stalking offenses.

The court's decision in January highlighted the severity of A's actions, stating that her messages to the victim exceeded the boundaries of typical fan interactions.

Despite Jung Eun-ji's presence on social media platforms like Instagram and Bubble, the court emphasized that such presence did not constitute permission for unwanted contact or approaches.

The content of A's message to the victim seems to have gone beyond the level of normal fans' support, interest and affection for their favorite celebrity. Although the victim joined Instagram and Bubble app to communicate with the public and fans, this cannot be considered permission for any contact and approach like this. A's crime caused damage, and the victim seems to have suffered mental shock, pain, anxiety, and fear from that. In addition, A has been denying the crime and yet to show any signs of reflection"

A, however, chose to appeal against the initial verdict, contesting the court's ruling.

The case against A stemmed from allegations that she sent a total of 544 direct messages to Jung Eun-ji between March 2020 and August 2020.

These messages included inquiries such as,

"Did you sue me? Why? I only texted you."

Additionally, A was found to have followed Jung Eun-ji's car on one occasion, further contributing to the charges of stalking.
