Han Ji-il, who was once a famous actor in the 1970s, has talked about his life after he fell into disgrace.
Despite a time when he was worth 10 billion won (Over $7 million), Han has a small rental apartment and lives on basic livelihood security.
The 70-year-old actor was a guest on MBN's "Special Scoop World," where he revealed the painful truth of his life, saying, "Do you know how painful it is for a top star to fall to the ground?"
Many viewers felt something for his narrative when he laid out the string of unsuccessful businesses that had bankrupted him, including a film production and hotel business.
Han Ji-il's colorful career started as an ad model, and later he starred in more than 70 movies and countless dramas.
He became a world sensation with his charismatic role in Im Kwon-taek's film Gilsottum, which won the Getz Peace Prize at the Chicago Film Festival in 1986. But his fortunes changed for the better as his career grew.
At present, Han is struggling with health problems such as leg pain and a herniated disc. He had recently been tested in America for possible Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease.
His results came back with "no real issues," but his mobility issues persist.
Han said, "Two and a half years ago, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc — and I never knew I would have to suffer this much, for this long.
He described feeling isolated with the fear of no one finding him in his modest home after he died alone in the place.
The actor said it has been years since he has lost many friends and fellow actors, elaborating, "Actually, I've never lost so many friends as a lot of them and fellows have died these days."
He then went on, "Last week, I attended the funeral of Kim Soo-mi and contemplated my death." He said, "I am also thinking of going to another world now."
