MWC 2014 debrief would have to start with Samsung. First they began unveiling events on the opening day of the MWC 2014, February 24, 2014.
Although it was anticipated weeks in advance, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was the biggest debut at the conference. Most of the rumors going into the 'Samsung Unpacked' event were true, except for a couple of minor misses.
The Galaxy S5 showed off a pulse monitor on the back of the smartphone, which was a nice surprise. Much of the extras announced on the S5 and the Gear 2/2 Neo are extraneous and the vital sign checks are mostly targeting the elderly among consumers. If it can be useful for any demography, you can expect the smartphone sales to shoot up.
The Gear 2, 2NEO and FIT made a big impact at the Mobile World Congress, since they were huge improvements from the previous wearables. Using Samsung's own OS on the Gear 2 smartwatches was a novelty although along with the using Tizen as an OS, the processing speed will slow down considerable.
Tizen will be able to take on simple tasks but speed will be a problem. The new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are a refreshing upgrade from the bulky Galaxy Gear, but it's also a taken step tep back with Tizen.
Sony
Sony has a way of outperforming and is in a class by itself. There's no beating its specs and the Xperia Z2 smartphone is a good upgrade from the Z1. Though there aren't many esthetic changes, you might have settle for Sony's motto, "why mess with success" However, be warned that there are a number tweaks to the software, which makes the Z2 pricey.
Sony M2, is a 'crème de la crème' smartphone in the mid-range price category.
Lenovo
Moving on to Lenovo, the Chinese firm has a number of devices that are impressive. Their recent acquisition of Motorola from Google is also part of their desire to expand to new model devices. Lenovo offers great quality at each price point, making the smartphone both affordable and elegant in style. Analysts at the androidcommunity.com said that Lenovo stood out from the rest of the pack.
Nokia
Nokia has been a household name since the launch of the early cell phone concept. The Finnish firm's hardware has been able to support low costs, and sales level rose to stunning levels, particularly in Asia. Nokia X devices include the X+ and the XL. No one at the show expected three brand new Android smartphones.
Analysts say that it remains to be seen how well Nokia will do among low priced competitors at the show including Blackphone, Acer, and Huawei.
