Lena Dunham hosted Saturday Night Live this past Saturday, with musical guest The National. Saturday Night Live has produced some hilarious "Girls" spoofs in the past, including one with Tina Fey, who introduced the hysterical new Girl, Albanian refugee Blerta. However, this week, the SNL cast had the advantage of Girls creator Lena Dunham on the show - it was her first time hosting Saturday Night Live.
One of the best skits from this weekend went back to the biblical times, in a skit called "Girl," which takes Hannah and her boyfriend Adam back to biblical times, imagining how their meandering lives and self-absorption would play out during the Garden of Eden, complete with forbidden fruit and talking snakes. "Before there were Girls, there was the first Girl." "Girl" features the first "Girl" ever, Eve (the biblical version of Hannah, played by Lena Dunham on the HBO show), "a struggling twenty-something in the garden of Eden." Appropriately enough, Hannah has a boyfriend named Adam. "I'm three days old! I don't even have health insurance!"
The parody also pokes fun at Dunham's frequent nudity on "Girls," which has been the mark of many a criticism by both viewers and critics, as well as a trending topic online. Narration of the skit reads, "AO Scott of The New York Times says, 'Even for Adam and Eve, there's a lot of nudity.'"
The "Girls" character Shoshana, played by SNL cast member Vanessa Bayer, makes an appearance as the talking serpent in the Garden Eden, complete with her signature donut hairdo. Eve asks the snake, "I can eat this right? Like if I wash it?" Shoshana the Serpent replies, "Oh em effing gee, I am a legit snake, and I know this sounds crazy, but you should totally eat the apple."
