In the time it's taken Philadelphia to tie a franchise record with 20 consecutive losses, Evan Turner has been traded to the Pacers, who seek their fourth straight win Monday night while trying to make another contribution to Philadelphia's run of futility.
The Sixers (15-51), who also dropped 20 straight during a 9-73 season in 1972-73, set a season worst for points in a 103-77 loss to Memphis on Saturday.
They'll need to earn a win over the next six games to avoid tying the 2010-11 Cleveland squad that set an NBA record with 26 straight defeats. Only one team in that upcoming stretch has a losing record -- New York, which has won six straight.
"Any win we have right now would be considered an upset," coach Brett Brown said. "That's the way it's played out at this stage."
Brown, in his first year on the job after being an assistant coach for successful San Antonio teams, knew the Sixers would go through their share of struggles.
"This is not slit-your-wrist time. This is not even close to that," said Brown to the team's website, whose team has not led in the fourth quarter and has lost by an average of 18.2 points during its skid. "This is about building a program and understanding the short-term pain for a lot of long-term gain. That's my vision. That's how I approach it."
Turner netted 20 points Saturday as the Pacers rallied for a 112-104 overtime victory over Detroit. Paul George scored 30 for Indiana (49-17), which holds a multiple-game edge on Miami for home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.
"Really proud of our guys," coach Frank Vogel said. "I did not like the deficit we built especially in that first half, but we stayed with the game and came back with better energy."
Indiana trailed by 25 in the second quarter but stormed back by outscoring the Pistons 32-19 in the third. It marked the second-biggest comeback in the NBA this season.
The Pacers have won 17 times after trailing at halftime.
