Despite recent reports that the case surrounding Kurt Cobain's death will be reopened, it looks like the demise of the Nirvana singer will remain a conspiracy.

The news originated from KIRO 7, a local channel in Seattle, the death place of Cobain. Representatives of the station said that local police "have reexamined the case."

In addition, they included that Seattle officials developed rolls of film dealing with the rock star's death that had been collected dust in the police evidence vault.

According to The Washington Post , the managing editor at KIRO 7 posted on Twitter that the detective in charge of the Cobain case told the channel he reopened it.

This triggered Gawker, Fox News, and other media conglomerates to create headlines like "Seattle Police Reopening Investigation Into Kurt Cobain’s Death” and “Kurt Cobain death investigation reopened, report says."

Unfortunately, all the hype was for nothing.

“No, we have not reopened the Kurt Cobain case,” Detective Renee Witt, a police spokeswoman, told The Washington Post on Thursday afternoon.

Witt explained that a cold case detective re-entered the Cobain files because the 20th anniversary of Cobain's death, which was finalized as a suicide, is coming up in April.

As for the developed rolls of film, they contained better-quality images that were already released. Witt suggested that the department might issue those pictures on its blog in the future. That is pretty much the end of it.

“No change, no developments, no new leads,” she said. Any reports suggesting that the case was reopened are “very very incorrect,” Witt said.
