The slew of rumors that have surrounded the release of season 4 of American Horror Story are confirmed; "Coven" creator Ryan Murphy Tweeted yesterday that the next title is "Freak Show."
Few details on the season have yet to be released. However, according to E! Online, actress Jessica Lange will play a German immigrant managing of one of the last freak shows in the United States, as she tries to keep her business from going under. The show is set in Jupiter, Florida in 1950.
"If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there's some more clues in that year. It's a period piece," Murphy said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"We try and do the opposite of what we've done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent."
News of the title comes a week after American Horror Story writer Douglas Petrie released details of the show on a Nerdist podcast. Petrie confirmed that the season was set at a carnival.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming season is set to star Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and Angela Basset as a group of Jessica Lange's performers. However, there is still no word on what their "talents" will be. According to E Online, Denis O'Hare and Emma Roberts are also in talks to return to roles in the upcoming season.
Previous seasons have included aliens, ghosts, witches and serial killers, among other frightening situations. What would you like to see in "Freak Show"? Corrupt carnival owners? Creepy Clowns? Fire-eating and Sword-swallowing acts ending in disaster? Only time can tell what the oddities Season 4 will bring.
American Horror Story Season 4 is set to premiere in October 2014.
