While driving in a bad part of town, Zac Efron and his bodyguard run out of gas. After a confrontation with three homeless men, the actor's bodyguard is stabbed. As Efron seeks help for his bodyguard, he is punched in the face by one of the transients.

Although it may sound like the plotline of one of Efron's newest teen movies, Efron claims that it is all true. According to TMZ, Efron said that he was punched in the face last night due to a misunderstanding with a homeless man, after running out of gas in Skid Row-a dangerous area of downtown Los Angeles.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," Efron later said, according to TMZ.

Although Efron's story is that he is the victim in the case, Los Angeles police said they witnessed Efron in a full blown fight with the attackers. The police did not arrest either party because they viewed the fight as "mutual combat," according to TMZ.

Efron also claimed he had thrown a bottle out of the window when his car had run out of gas, and the three men attacked his bodyguard because they believed the bottle had been thrown at them.

However, according to Perez Hilton, Efron's bodyguard claimed that the three men stabbed him in the stomach, face and chest and Efron used the bottle to fend off the attackers. In the bodyguard's eyes, Efron was actually a hero.

Unfortunately for Efron, sources reveal the bodyguard has a criminal record of drugs and violence, according to Perez Hilton. As Efron has spent time in rehab for past drug abuse, the question of why the actor was in the neighborhood still remains. A source also revealed that Efron was "obviously intoxicated," according to TMZ.

Efron's rep has not yet commented on the confrontation.
