When Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae co-starred in "My Girl," their chemistry sizzled. They made such a great onscreen couple that fans assumed they were dating. Alas, their onscreen relationship did not continue on in to real life.
Now however, the two actors will have another chance at onscreen chemistry in the MBC weekend drama "Hotel King."
Both actors have changed since they worked together eight years ago. Not only do they see changes in themselves but they also see growth in each other.
At a press conference for the drama, Lee Dong Wook said that the biggest difference was that they were both now in their 30s and more mature.
"On the set I am more composed and more considerate," said Lee Dong Wook.
Lee Da Hae agreed. She said that when they worked together previously, the actor had a tendency to be blunt and many people misunderstood that to mean he was uncaring. If you really knew him, then you saw beyond that.
Fortunately, she said, he has become better at dealing with others.
"Oppa has become more mature," she said. "He knows how to take care of people now. He takes care of our juniors and I saw a side of him that I had not seen before. He has become more sensitive and I think he has become a better person now that he's older. I think he got cooler.
Both actors have come a long way since their rookie years. As each actor's confidence grew it became easier to relate to co-stars.
"When we filmed 'My Girl' we were busy with our own roles," said Lee Dong Wook. "It was my first leading role in a series and Lee Da Hae was almost a new actress. Now we can be more considerate of each other. We've been able to care for each other as well as the staff members."
That's not to say he had problems working with her before.
"She's so very good at acting and it has been comfortable acting with her," he said. "When you start out there can be conflicts and disagreements. It can lead to co-stars trying to compete for attention. There's nothing like that with Da Hae. We work well together."
Having worked together before, it was easier for them to get close this time.
"The fact that we reduced that time shows how good our chemistry is," he said. "And she got even prettier."
"My Girl" fans are looking forward to seeing whether their chemistry is better the second time around.
