Prince Harry Documentary: Prince Harry suffered severe exhaustion and altitude sickness during his journey to the South Pole. According to iTV, he was 'weakened, dehydrated and in pain' during the expedition.
The recent South Pole mission involved three teams that faced quite a few challenges while making the 208-mile trek.
'The idea was to raise money for wounded warrior groups in all four countries, and to showcase the abilities of veterans who have been injured in combat. With a film crew along and regular updates to Twitter, they safely reached the pole on Dec. 13, returning home as heroes,' USA Today reported.
The three teams that took part in this charity event are Soldier On (Australia and Canada), Soldiers to Summit (United States of America) and Walking With the Wounded (United Kingdom).
The American, British and Commonwealth groups were initially contending against each other but Ed Parker, the expedition director announced at one point that the event would no longer be a race and that they can go on with their own pace due to weather conditions.
"The reason for this is entirely simple-safety, which remains the core principal of our expeditions. While all three teams were progressing well, it was becoming evident that there was a higher degree of stress imposed on the team members, due to unprecedented terrain on the plateau," he said in a statement.
According to E!, 'Prince Harry is joined by True Blood hunk Alexander Skarsgård, who is a member of the American Team and The Wire's Dominic West, who is going with the Commonwealth team.'
The team Harry lead was comprised of 12 injured English service men and women, including amputees.
The Royal said, "All 12 of them have different reasons for being here and I don't think it's necessarily something that for all of them that it will, either tonight or tomorrow or when they get back home, but what an amazing journey for every single one of them and this charity really does do amazing things. It's not just for the small minority that are here but hopefully in time to come through the documentary, and all the stories back home."
"It will just prove to everybody that there's so much that can be made possible when you think that nothing is left. But I'm so proud, I'm so chuffed and I'm so privileged to be here with all these guys and girls, and well done to Ed and Dags and everyone who's organized this, what an amazing accomplishment. I think we'll be having a few whiskies tonight and then everyone's looking forward to getting home. Mission success," he added.
'Walking With the Wounded is a U.K. charity that helps retrain and reeducate wounded servicemen and women to help them find long term employment after they have left the Armed Forces. Harry currently serves as patron of the charity,' as stated in E! Online.
The NBC News exclusive primetime special Prince Harry's South Pole Heroes was aired March 26.
