Jerry Bruckheimer's Top Gun 2 looks to be on the go as the producer revealed the plot details of the sequel and it involves Tom Cruise's character Pete "Maverick" Mitchell facing a couple of robotic drones. Yes, you read it right, it's Tom Cruise versus drones in Top Gun 2.
Top Gun was one of the biggest box-office hit in the 1986 and has gross more than $356 million worldwide. Jerry Bruckheimer planned the Top Gun sequel since 2010, but the death the first Top Gun film Tony Scott and was forced to put the sequel on hold in 2012.
"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer,' Bruckheimer told the Huffington Post earlier this week.
Don and I tried to develop something, we didn't succeed. Tom Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it," Jerry Bruckheimer said at the time.
He further added his statement regarding Tom Cruise's participation.
"We still want to do it with Tom [Cruise] and Paramount are still interested in making it ... It's something he is excited about. So as long as he keeps his enthusiasm, hopefully we'll get it made."
The plot of Top Gun 2 s explained by Bruckheimer during an interview with HuffPost Live and goes something like this.
"The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay. It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture."
