Lupita Nyong'o was announced to be a new face of Lancome today. This is the 31 year old actress's first big endorsement. She said in a statement about her work with the French brand, "I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved. I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself."
Nyong'o joins a host of other famed Oscar-winning actresses as ambassadors for the brand, including Julia Roberts, Penelope Cruz, and Kate Winslet. According to USA Today, her ads will begin appearing this summer. This is the actress's first job after winning the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave.. Her IMDb page shows just one post-"12 Years a Slave" project on Nyong'o's filmography, a minor role as a flight attendant in the Liam Neeson thriller "Non-Stop."
Additionally, according to E! News, Nyong'o is making her first trip back to Hollywood since the Oscars. She is set to present at the GLAAD Media Awards on April 12. E!'s Ross Mathews is confirmed to host the ceremony; fellow presenters include "The Big Bang Theory"'s Johnny Galecki, Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany and Jordan Gavaris, as well as Fashion Police's Kelly Osbourne. Jennifer Lopez will receive this year's Vanguard Award and "Orange Is the New Black"'s Laverne Cox will be presented with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award by actress Ellen Page. Manny de Guerre, the founder and director of the Side by Side LGBT Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, will receive the inaugural International Advocate for Change Award. The 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards take place April 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
