Weight Loss Tips: Morning Sunshine Regulates Metabolism, Hunger And Sensation Of ‘Feeling Full,’ Light Brings Lower BMI

There's a recent item added to the list of weight loss tips that may be the easiest technique of all.

The Courier has reported that morning sunshine is linked to lower body mass index (BMI).

Research suggests that light may play a role in regulating metabolism, hunger and the sensation of "feeling full" after eating.

U.S. study author Professor Phyllis Zee from Northwestern University states, "The message is that you should get more bright light between 8am and noon."

It has been reported that as little as 20 to 30 minutes of morning light is thought to be enough to affect BMI.

NPR reports that researchers at Northwestern University recruited 54 adults (average age of 30) from the Chicago area and had them wear wrist monitors that tracked their exposure to light and sleep patterns for a week.

The participants recorded what they were eating in daily logs as researchers estimated their caloric intake.

Research associate professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Kathryn Reid, stated, "We found that the earlier this light exposure occurred during the day, the lower individuals' body mass index."

The link between morning sunshine and BMI were true even when the researchers accounted for activity level, caloric intake, sleep timing, age or season.

Reid thinks that modifying light does have the potential for use in weight management, similar to the way that sleep helps people avoid weight gain.

Weight loss tips usually consist of eating healthy and exercising; knowing that the amount of light you are exposed to can be a factor as well is a game changer.

Researchers claim that many people do not get enough natural light in the morning because of their indoor lifestyle.

Studies have shown that a light level of 500 lux was the "magic number" for having a lower BMI.

Of all the weight loss tips to come, getting morning sunshine truly sounds like the healthiest for both the mind and body.
