Google is rumored to be preparing Android TV, the search engine company's attempt to join the world digital entertainment appliances.
The news exclusively came out through The Verge's website when they acquired some documents discussing Google's latest project.
Excerpts from the said documents stated, "Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform," and that "It's all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction."
Judging from the descriptions of the project, Google is ready to clash with other media player devices such as Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
With the future existence of Anroid TV, there are questions on what will happen to Google's Chromecast device.
In an interview with AllThingsD last year, Google SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps Sundar Pichai said that the 2 devices will cater to different markets.
Pichai explained that Chromecast will mainly focus on video streaming from popular video websites/channels while Google TV, probably Android TV's initial product name, will have "an immersive experience" that will not just supply premium TV streaming but will elevate the level of gaming also.
The Verge tried to reach out to Google for comments but the search engine giant refused to release a statement about the project.
