Nirvana Hall Of Fame Performance was quite the spectacle. The2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was more than just an awards night to Nirvana fans in New York's Barclays Center as Kurt Cobain's band received the honor only on their 1st year of eligibility - it was also a celebration of music the shook the world during the 90's. And the performance was not to disappoint. Four female rockers - Joan Jett, Lorde, Sonic Youth vocalist-bassist Kim Gordon and St. Vincent - joined the living members of Nirvana on stage to sing four classics by the grunge pioneers at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as reported by Rolling Stone.
The Nirvana Hall of Fame Performance was one for the books as Jett gave a ferocious rendition of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Gordon sang "Aneurysm," St. Vincent gave "Lithium" a cool make over and Grammy-awardee Lorde, the youngest to join the wagon, sang a flawless rendition of "All Apologies" with bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear, after the band was inducted by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. R.E.M's Michael Stipe, who was Cobain's friend, offered an emotional speech to pave way to their induction: "Nirvana captured lightning in a bottle," he said on stage. The band pushed "us forward towards our individual and collective potential."
He further saluted Nirvana for its hardcore roots and anti-mainstream philosophy and specifically Cobain for being the "outsider voice for the fags, the fat, the fed-up and the bullied," according to FasterLouder.com. "Kurt, I miss you," he then said rawly. The "Royals" singer tweeted excitedly about the Nirvana Hall of Fame performances: "so honored and happy i got to help celebrate nirvana into the rock and roll hall of fame induction tonight. true fucking rock stars, all, forever."
Good things do come in times of grieving as the Hall of Fame 2014 audience witness Courtney Love hugging the remaining member of Nirvana and calling them "Brother Krist and Grohl," Rolling Stone reported.
"This is my family I'm looking at right now," "Hole" singer Love said, pointing at the entourage on stage that include "Foo Fighters" singer Dave Grohl. "I just wish Kurt could have been here. Tonight he would have really appreciated it."
The reception by this timely display of affection was mixed as the feuding between the remaining members of Nirvana and Cobain' widow was so publicized for many years.
We have to wait and see for the next months to come if the war is really over.
