It's tempting to think that k-drama actors and actresses lead glamorous lives and never have to suffer through awkward or difficult times. It's easy to imagine they glide through life in designer clothes pursued by other attractive actors who adore them. And yet some recent statements by k-drama actors show that this is not the case.
Here are seven ways k-drama actors are just like the rest of us:
1. They have one-sided, unrequited crushes. On a recent broadcast of MBC's FM 4U 'FM Music City" singer and actress IU admitted that in the past year she had an unrequited crush.
"I've never liked anyone first before," she said. While she said she told the person she was crushing on, she would not say what happened. Was it one of her "Pretty Man" co-stars?
2. They have had to work bizarre jobs to make ends meet. Before Lee Joon joined MBLAQ and long before he became an actor, he had to make money. So, he took a job as a wig model. Wigmakers would fit wigs on his head.
And many k-drama actors worked in the food industry to put food on the table. Kim Hyun Joong delivered pizza and worked at a fried chicken store.
3. They may suffer from crippling doubt. Yoon Eun Hye debuted as a singer with Baby V.O.X. but felt she was not good enough. So she tried acting, only to be sure she would never be good enough. She was hurt by the criticism of her early acting efforts and wondered if she had chosen the right career. But th star of "Coffee Prince," "Missing You" and "Future's Choice" mastered her doubts and kept acting.
4. They know what it's like to have their dreams crushed. Lee Min Ho wanted to become a professional player, but an injury in the fifth grade ended his dream.
5. They are not always confident about their looks. Although her fans know she is gorgeous, Park Shin Hye at one point worried that she was not pretty enough to be an actress. She even considered having a nose job but decided against it. And that's fortunate because she is uniquely beautiful.
6. They had to endure unhappy times in their childhood. Park Yoochun confessed to having some miserable years when his parents immigrated to the U.S. and divorced. When he was scouted, he returned to Korea and never looked back. Despite his unhappy childhood, he considers himself a cheerful and optimistic person.
7. They don't always demonstrate a lot of potential in school. When Kim Soo Hyun's former teachers learned he became an actor, they were surprised. He was such a shy and quiet student.
For these actors, life was not always easy and glamorous, but that only helps make their acting all the more convincing.
