Windows 8.2 Release Date, News and Rumors; Update Could Come As Early As August But Microsoft Could Skip Right To Windows 9

Windows 8.2 release date, news and rumors hint at Microsoft attempting to solve client issues with Windows 8 with updates of Windows 8.1. The free Windows 8.1 updates were released at the Build Conference which began on April 2 and lasted a week.

Touchscreen devices like tablets have benefited from the Windows 8.1 updates, but they have not caught on to desktops running on the operating system. Classical desktops were cumbersome on the Windows 8.1 OS.

Having said that, Microsoft's next iteration is likely to unveil the Windows 9 toward end of 2014. However, the search engine firm will quell complaints by updating the Windows 8.1 OS with Windows 8.2 prior to the launch of Windows 9.

Windows 9 the next iteration of Microsoft , will probably hit the market by the end of next year, but until then users might receive a new update to the current OS : Windows 8.2. With Windows 8.2, a start button fix would bring back the smooth functionality of the Windows 7 OS.

Reports signal the next full release update to arrive at a point near Spring 2015. At any rate, Redmond St., Seattle-based Microsoft appears to be rushing through its updates, particularly the WP 8.1 in order to complete the WP 8.2 for customers. With Microsoft's eagerness to complete its updates, the schedule for an announcement of the WP 9 might take place at the end of December.

Microsoft said that the price of WP 8.2 will be free of charge, which leaves consumers a bit happier about the wait for the next update. "Of course, there might not be a Windows 8.2 and Microsoft might skip straight ahead to Windows 9, sweeping Windows 8 hurriedly under the corporate rug. Little is known about the next Windows OS bar the fact that it will involve more cloud integration and potentially some of the cloud processing cleverness debuting in the Xbox One," said an online report.

"The new update features improvements to the Start Screen including the ability to boot straight into the Desktop, the return of shutdown on the Start screen and a more familiar task bar to unify the old and new user interfaces," techradar reported.

Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, however, quoted sources that this update could launch as early as August 2014. She reports that Microsoft looks to speed up its software update release cadence on the whole, starting with Windows 8.2 and possibly for future Windows Phone releases.
