"American Horror Story" season 4 cast Sarah Paulson confessed that she was shocked upon reading the script for Ryan Murphy's new series. She also revealed that "Freak Show" is a cross between "Asylum" and "Coven."

The 38-year-old actress said that when she read the script for "American Horror Story: Freak Show," she blurted out, "holy s-t!"

She told E! News: "I feel like that's the appropriate reaction you want when you read the first script of 'American Horror Story.'"

"So it's very exciting and totally nerve-wracking in the best way because you think, 'How the hell am I going to pull this off?!' And as an actor, I think that's an exciting thing to feel."

The 38-year-old actress has undergone several changes in the past three seasons of "American Horror Story." In the first season, she played psychic Billie Dean Howard, then reporter Lana Winters in "Asylum" and witch Cordelia Foxx in "Coven."

When asked if what role she finds most difficult to play, she told The Hollywood Reporter: "I would say in season two, it was twofold: One, when I had to simulate performing an abortion on myself, and two, playing a 75-year-old woman. That was very hard," she said.

"American Horror Story" season 4 cast Sarah Paulson explained that she didn't want to play a caricature of the character that she played and wanted to "hold on to who the character of Lana Winters."

Although, she didn't provide any spoilers, "American Horror Story" cast Sarah Paulson revealed to E! that "Freak Show" is going to "a kind of beautiful hybrid between 'Coven' and 'Asylum.'"

Series creator Ryan Murphy earlier told Entertainment Weekly Radio that he's nervous for "American Horror Story" season 4 cast Sarah Paulson for the upcoming season. He described the actress' role as "the most challenging character I've ever created."
