"Harry Potter" Star Rupert Grint will be making his Broadway debut this October. He will be following the footsteps of his on-screen and off-screen friend, Daniel Radcliffe, in conquering the New York Broadway scene.

Grint, who played "Ron Weasley" in the magical movie series, made his official stage appearance as a drug dealer in London's West End "Mojo" last year, reports Daily Mail. This time, the British actor will be taking on the character of acclaimed theater director Frank Finger who worries about his career as he directs a new play by an anxious writer.

The 25-year-old world star will be joining "It's Only A Play" alongside notable A-list Broadway actors Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Stockard Channing, Megan Mullally, F. Murrary Abraham as well as newcomer Micah Stock. The play will be directed by Jack O'Brien.

The limited 17-week engagement will open at the Broadway Schoenfeld Theatre this October 9 according to Entertainment Weekly.

"It's Only A Play" is a newly revised adaptation by four-time Tony winner Terrence McNally from the original play. It first graced the New York stage in 1986, opening at the Manhattan Theatre Club. The acclaimed writer's recent premiere "Mothers and Sons" marked his golden year on Broadway.

The new production is set to hold preview productions on September 4 reports The LA Times.

The former "Ron Weasley" told Daily Mail that starring in "Mojo" made him want to work in theater more. He added, "It's opened my eyes; I've learned so much."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Grint's Harry Potter co-star, Daniel Raddcliffe, recently came back to Broadway in The Cripple of Inishmaan at the Cort Theatre, which will end in July.

Radcliffe's critical acclaim in the theater scene came after his successful years as the titular "Harry Potter." He goes on to say that he believes all the opportunities he experienced were made possible through the very successful movie franchise.
