The strip scenes of Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello are set to make a flash on the big screen once again next year, July 3. But how about Matthew McConaughey?
As per Magic Mike star Gabriel Iglesias, Matthew might not be part of the sequel anymore. In an interview with the Dish Nation, he spilled "Word has it that Matthew's probably not gonna be involved in this one because he's worth a lot of money because of the whole Oscar thing."
Matthew recently bagged the Academy Awards Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for the movie Dallas Buyers Club. "He's worth a lot of money...that whole Oscar thing, the nerve right?" Iglesias joked.
In that case, we may no longer see him revisiting the role of Dallas, a former stripper who owns Xquisite. In the movie, Dallas trained and groomed all the dancers including "Magic Mike".
So are we expecting a change in the storyline? According to Channing, the sequel which will be called Magic Mike XXL, will shift the action from Florida nightclubs to the road. "This one will be a road trip movie," he shared.
Channing, who is co-writing the screenplay with Reid Carolin, said that the plot, which is all about travelling in a friend's van while doing some sexy dance moves in front of 3,000 screaming women, has been inspired by two strippers' conventions he attended.
"We don't want to make it a serious, slice-of-life movie. We want reality in it, but we don't want to make it some dark drama. There was some darkness in the last one, and I think it surprised people and shocked people. This one, we want there to be a lot of conflict and struggle, but we also want a s***-ton of fun. Just ridiculous stuff that you would never see in a movie," he said.
According to Empire Online, protégé Greg Jacobs will be the director of the movie.
Surely, a more exciting plot is in store for us but what do you think of Matthew McConaughey missing in action? Sound off in the comments section below!
