When one plans to rob a house, he or she must always remember to log off of their Facebook account.

As random and ridiculous as that statement sounds, 26-year-old Nicholas Wig allegedly made the very mistake when he broke into a home in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Police say that Wig logged onto Facebook, but then forgot to log off after reportedly stealing credit cards, cash and a watch from James Wood, according to Yahoo News. The Facebook mistake was actually how cops caught the alleged thief.

When the homeowner returned to his home, he found that a thief had been in and out. Wood found a pair of wet sneakers and a pair of wet pants that didn't belong to him was left in his home as well.

"I kind of started to panic," Wood told WCCO CBS Minnesota.

However, when Wood went on his computer, he reportedly found that Wig had forgotten to log out of his Facebook account.

The St. Paul resident posted his own phone number hoping that Wig would contact him, and indeed, he did.

"You left a few things at my house last night, how can I get them back to you?" asked Wood when Wig texted him. The alleged thief also agreed to return the things that he reportedly took, according to the Business Insider.

When Wig started to walk up to Wood's home to make the exchange, the homeowner called the police who arrested him.

Wig faces up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines if he is convicted.
