Yahoo! Movies has released the new "Child of God" trailer, a film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name. Academy award nominee James Franco wrote and directed the said film and will hopefully not trigger another verbal attack from North Korea.

The Franco and Seth Rogen comedy, "The Interview," recently antagonized the country with its sensitive subject matter. The film features the duo as TV journalists-turned-CIA agents recruited to assassinate the North Korean leader. A representative for the country's government-run television station issued a warning against the United States should the film be allowed to open in cinemas this October.

"Child Of God," on the other hand, tells the story of a lonely and dispossessed man in Tennessee. The film will star Scott Haze as Lester Ballard, a violent man living in the Appalachian Mountains in the 1960s. Deprived of a family and housing, Ballard becomes a loner and builds his life outside of the small town's social order. Pushed into isolation, his loneliness will bring him further into crime and degradation.

Slashfilm describes Franco's new production as "a tightly-crafted and very effective story of a wildly unstable man."

Slashfilm goes on to describe the film as "grimy, ugly and odd" with Haze's "chilling" performance and "one of the most raw, rub-till-it-bleeds" acting that the reviewer has ever seen. The writer also describes the "Child Of God" trailer as edited in a "smart, and very selective" manner but reveals that the film is "far more creepy and grim."

Jim Parrack of "True Blood" and Tim Blake Nelson of "Klondike" will star alongside Haze, while director Franco will cameo in the movie.

The film has been screened in several film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Austin International Film Festival (Grand Selection), as well as the Venice International Film Festival (Golden Lion nominee) and the New York International Film Festival (Grand Marnier Fellowship).

"Child Of God" will hit cinemas on August 1.
