True Detective Season 2 Cast rumor alert! According to The Wrap the show's script is currently being circulated to talent agencies, and season 2 will feature just one male lead, and a male/female co-star.

This is contradictory to earlier statements made by show creator Nic Pizzolatto that the second season will feature a male lead and a strong female lead.

"Right now, we're working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one," Pizzolatto has been quoted as saying.

The True Detective Season 2 cast list has been surrounded with plenty of rumors and speculation. There have been talks that Matthew McConaughey will be back to play a brand new role in the series, and that Jessica Chastain is attached to the project to play the female lead.

Both of these hopes have been dashed when both McConaughey and Chastain denied that they will be appearing on the HBO hit any time soon.

Part of the first season's success is the fantastic dynamics between the two lead characters played by McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Fans of the show are concerned about who can possibly match the excellent performances they have seen in the first season.

If there's anybody that can perhaps match the talent, charisma, and intensity of the two -- it's somebody like Brad Pitt. Rumors about Pitt's involvement in the second installment of True Detective have been persistent.

Given that earlier statements by show creator Pizzolatto have proved to be unreliable, then perhaps when Pizzolatto also said that none of the cast rumors are true, should fans believe him? Maybe there's a reason the Brad Pitt rumor refuses to die down. Fans of the show will just have to stay tuned.
