Gone Gone Girl Movie News: Bestselling Book's Movie Version Has New Ending? Director David Fincher Said Ben Affleck Was Shocked

Gone Girl, the bestselling novel that will be released as a movie starring Ben Affleck has some fans worried that the film version might not live up to the book's brilliance. After all, bringing to the big screen its different narratives and plot twists is a formidable challenge.

The book, which made it to the New York Times Best Seller list is a suspense thriller about a man whose wife has been murdered.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was hinted at that the book's author, Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the movie's script, had made major changes from the book's story, and had even created an brand new ending.

Director David Fincher (Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network) revealed to the magazine that Affleck was taken aback by the new conclusion to the story.

"Ben was so shocked by it," he said "He would say, 'This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch.'"

However, during a recent Reddit question-and-answer, the bestselling author downplayed any worries that fans might have about a new storyline.

"Those reports have been greatly exaggerated! Of course, the script has to be different from the book in some ways-you have to find a way to externalize all those internal thoughts and you have to do more with less room and you just don't have room for everything. But the mood, tone and spirit of the book are very much intact. I've been very involved in the film and loved it. Working with David Fincher is pretty much the best place to start for a screenwriter. Screenwriting definitely works different parts of your brain than writing a novel. I do love that with novels, you can really sprawl out-it feels quite decadent. With screenwriting, you have to justify every choice. It's a nice discipline, but definitely not decadent," Flynn explained.

Aside from Gone Girl, Flynn's second novel Dark Places set to be made into a movie, and will be released this September. Gone Girl, on the other hand, will be showing on October 3, 2014.
