Watch Foxcatcher Trailer: Film Is A Favorite At Cannes; See Steve Carell Play A Villain And Channing Tatum's Oscar Worthy Performance

Foxcatcher, directed by Bennett Miller who also did Capote and Moneyball, is based on the true story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum), his brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo, and their wealthy sponsor, John duPont (Steve Carell).

It traces the relationships of the three main characters -- Dave, the charismatic Olympic Gold medalist, who loves his younger brother Mark. Mark, who has always lived in the shadow of his more successful sibling has something to prove to the world, has a baggage that he needs to get rid off.

Meanwhile, du Pont is the eccentric heir of the wealthy du Pont family. Out of a need to prove himself as well, he decides to sponsor the American national wrestling team to help them win the gold at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

The film debuted at the 2014 Cannes film festival to positively glowing reviews. It was one of the films in the Palm d'Or competition, where Miller bagged the Best Director Award.

Critics are raving about the performances of the two lead actors, Tatum and Carell, who have previously been known for their comedic roles.

Carell, who shot to stardom with his role in the 40-Year Old Virgin, and is well-loved for being the crazy boss in TV's The Office has transformed from his manic, comedic persona to portray a wealthy heir suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. Wearing prosthetics to play John du Pont, Carell's performance has been described as "deeply unsettling."

Not to be outdone, Tatum also turns in an excellent performance, proving that he has range beyond the hunky, cool-boy or comedy roles that he usually plays.

The movie's director has already coaxed an Oscar winning performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman inthe movie Capote, and it looks like he has done his magic with Carell and Tatum too.

Foxcatcher opens in theaters this November 14, 2014
