The classic anime series, "Doraemon," is getting a 3D CG remake entitled "Stand By Me Doraemon," which will be hitting Japanese theaters on August 8. This reboot was made to commemorate the 80th birth anniversary of its original author, Fujiko F. Fujio.
With only a month away from its release date, Satoshi Tsumabuki was announced as the voice behind Doraemon's human best friend, Nobita. He also played the iconic character in a popular Toyota commercial starring the Doraemon crew.
The new "Doraemon" movie brings together directors Takashi Yamazaki and Ryuuichi Yagi for the second time. They first worked on "Friends Mononokejima no Naki."
Tokyohive reports that Tsumabuki even put on his own glasses during the recording for the "Doraemon" movie in April. He revealed that he was "really troubled" when he received the casting offer since Nobita and the "Doraemon" series has already become a very iconic in Japanese pop culture, even calling it a "national manga."
The production team had to contact Tsumabuki about the role several times before the actor finally conceded and accepted the job. He was said to have discussed his part with the directors and worked well in the recording studio, using gestures as he voiced the popular Nobita.
Despite the voice-actor's initial fear however, directors Yamazaki and Yagi praised the actor's work after hearing the final recording.
"It was just as though Nobita-kun had his voice break and grown up," the directors said, regarding the recording.
Tsumabuki also mentioned what gadget he would want from Doraemon. "I think it [Abekonbe-a double ended object that reverses directions of things] would be cool if we live in a surrealistic world in which everything is reversed."
The new "Doraemon" movie, "Stand By Me Doraemon," will recreate a scene in the popular anime. It will show how Nobita and Doraemon met and parted. The movie will also portray a part of Nobita's future, as he fights for Shizuka's love.
