Gone Girl has just revealed four posters that will be sure to tantalize viewers about the upcoming murder-mystery movie.
Starring Ben Affleck and directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network), the movie is based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn.
The story follows Ben Affleck's character, Nick Dunne, whose wife, Amy (played by Rosamund Pike), mysteriously disappears on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary.
One poster shows a photo of the happy couple, snapped during their wedding as they are surrounded by friends.
But the catch is that the photo is enclosed in plastic bag labeled, "Evidence." The photos caption says, ironically enough, "Happy Anniversary." This poster also announces that a new teaser will be out on July 7.
Three more posters have been released, each one showing an object that has been bagged and tagged as evidence: red, lacy underwear, a scalpel, and a scrap of paper with burnt edges, torn from Amy's diary. It reads, "This man may kill me."
They all offer hints as to the nature of the mystery being tackled in the movie, as well as exciting first-looks at the elements that are involved in this particular cinematic case.
Of course, book readers are excited about just how director David Fincher will be able to pull off the movie, since the novel cleverly told the murder via two different narrators and non-linear storylines.
It has also been reported that the film's ending may differ significantly from the book. The book's author, Gillian Flynn, who is also the movie's screenwriter, was reported to have changed the entire story's third act, leaving even lead actor Ben Affleck taken aback.
Fincher has said, "Ben was so shocked by it," he said "He would say, 'This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch.'"
Will the movie shock book readers too?
Gone Girl will hit the movie screens on October 3. Neil Patrick also stars as Amy's college boyfriend, while Tyler Perry plays Nick's defense lawyer.
