Today the Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer premiered, featuring Christian Bale in his first role as a biblical character - Moses. The movie will tackle the story of Moses and the Israelite's journey out of Egypt, away from the cruel hand of the slave driver pharaoh Ramses, played by Joel Edgerton.
It was rumored last year that Steven Spielberg was attached to direct the movie, which has been described as a stripped-down recounting of the biblical epic, in the style of Saving Private Ryan. But the three-time Academy-Award winning director bowed out of the film, to work on other projects.
Enter another Academy-Awarding winning director, Ridley Scott. Another a prolific director, Scott, has often taken on cinematic projects that are sweeping in scale. Just take a look at his films such as Blade Runner and Gladiator. He has also made epic films set in the future, such as the sci-fi flick Prometheus. This time he will try his hand at the biblical story of such enormous scale, the story of the Exodus.
The Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer looks promising enough: excellent production values that bring to life the action-packed story the plagues besetting Egypt, and the grand story of Moses and the Israelites' incredible journey towards freedom. It also seems that the movie will focus on the dynamics between Moses and Ramses, who were brothers once, but now have been set against each other by fate. It's the kind of compelling premise that sets tha stage for a spectacular showdown.
Although not all of them have made an appearance in the Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer, other cast members include Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, BenMendelsohn, Indira Varma, John Turturro and Hiam Abbass .
Aside from the trailer, promotional photos have been released for the movie, featuring Christian Bale's Moses and Joel Edgerton's Ramses II.
The film will hit movie theaters on December 12.
