Amidst the announcement of the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight, the word war between both men has begun. "DC" has also expressed his willingness to go on and compete despite his knee condition.

On Thursday, UFC.com officially announced the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight, after the original contender Alexander Gustafsson pulled out of the competition due to an injured knee.

The Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier bout is set to take place at UFC 178 on September 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Within hours after the announcement, the two men already began trading barbs via social media.

The first set of tirades came from "DC's" side, but was communicated through Dana White's Twitter account.

"I just talked to @dc_mma on the phone and his little daughter was screaming in the background 'My Daddy is gonna be the CHAMPION'," White tweeted.

"Bones" responded through his own daughter, through a video he released through his Instagram account.

"DC, my dad's gonna beat you up, guaranteed," Jones' daughter said.

Hours after, Jon Jones sent a direct message to Daniel Cormier on Twitter.

"I hope you're ready to come to daddy," Jones wrote.

This in turn, surprised "DC", and tweeted his own response.

"Guys please get this message to @JonnyBones he doesn't follow me," Cormier tweeted. "Didn't think I followed him. Hes a ninja #newchamp"

It did not end there, as Jon Jones once again responded to his new challenger in the public forum.

"This is the fight I wanted in the first place," Jones tweeted in return. "Nothing like fresh meat #Champion2014

The war of words has always been a customary pre-fight ritual among combatants, but the bigger concern for Daniel Cormier is his knee condition, which he had surgery on in June.

However, the new number one contender is still confident that he can put on a competitive fight fight.

"There's always going to be hesitation," Cormier said in his appearance at UFC Tonight. "When you get a title fight you want to get three months to prepare, but if my coaches came to me and told me you have to beat Jon Jones in five weeks I would do it."
