After ending the first season with just a sneak peek of the mysterious Ethan Chandler's background, Josh Hartnett is more than eager to start shooting for 'Penny Dreadful' season 2.
Hartnett visited the San Diego Comic Con last week and spoke about his high hopes for the Showtime series' next season. Especially since the cast reportedly just received their scripts this week.
“He's a very complex character…" the '30 Days Of Night' actor said about Ethan Chandler. He hinted that the production wanted to tease his character out for a bit before the big reveal at the end of the season.
Ethan turned out to be a werewolf-like creature who can't remember what happens while he's on this black outs. Towards the end of last season, viewers saw him suffer through another blackout as well as the death of his lover, Brona Croft (Billie Piper).
Hartnett added that “next season will be much more about what his character has to offer," teasing fans of his character's new developments.
With the way his character was unraveled in the first season, Hartnett ended up not having that much exposure in the first few episodes of the series. Did the actor feel disappointed by this lack of action?
It looks like it only fueled his eagerness for 'Penny Dreadful' season 2 more.
"I had kind of a free year…" he joked about his free time during filming. “So next season hopefully I'll be on set a little bit more."
With the new script for the second season in the cast's hands, Hartnett couldn't help but praise the show's creator and writer John Logan.
“It's always surprising to pick up John's script," the actor said, "He's looking to surprise the audience."
He also adds that Logan is “endlessly engaging” and he enjoys working with the producer.
With Dr, Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) getting his monster (Rory Kinnear) a new bride in the form of Ethan's new lover and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) leaving Dorian Grey (Reeve Carney) heartbroken and immortally alone once again, viewers are more than eager to start the next season as much as Hartnett.
Showtime's 'Penny Dreadful' season 2 will air in 2015.
