iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: Apple's New Flagship Set Back By China Factory Explosion: After a factory explosion in China's metal polishing plant, production at factories in the vicinity could come to a halt, including the Chinese plant for Apple's new iPhone. The iPhone 6 release date could be pushed back due to dust explosion.
The release date for the iPhone 6 was originally planned for October, may be delayed as a result of the explosion at a car hub cap plant in Kunshan, killing 75 and injuring 186.
The explosion has resulted in stopping production after the State Administration of Work Safety inspected factories in the vicinity. Foxconn, Apple's supply chain, is in the metal polishing business and it will be affected.
The iPhone 6 will be composed of an aluminum mix, and they need to be polished at factories like Foxconn. Some analysts say that the iPhone 6 will release as planed. Apple will let its customers know about the iPhone 6 release date in September.
Industrial accidents are not uncommon in China - In 2002, more than 70,000 people were killed. But this particular explosion has caused more impact since it will hold back parts to go on the iPhone 6.
"It's thought the delays could impact on Foxconn, a key part of Apple's supply chain, who recently took on 10,000 new staff to cope with the demand for iPhone 6.
Polishing aluminum alloy may result in a dust that combines magnesium, aluminum, and iron. "If mixed together at a high enough concentration, a spark could trigger an explosion," reported the South China Morning Posts.
