Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We pit the Nokia X against the Sony Xperia E1 to see which is better.

For design and display, both smartphones have 4 inches displays with the same resolution of 480x800pixels and pixel density of 233ppi. The Nokia X platform 1.0 UI, which is upgradable to 1.1.2.2 and it supports multitouch, but only up to two fingers. Its dimensions are 115.5x63x10.4 mm and weighs 129 grams. The Nokia X has an IPS LCD screen.

The Sony Xperia E1 is thicker, as it measures 12 mm, 118 mm tall, 62.4 mm wide and it weighs 120 grams. Also, the screen is scratch resistant.

In terms of hardware and OS,The Nokia X is powered by a 1GHz dual core Cortex A5 processor, which couples with a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play chipset, an Adreno 203 GPU and which is supported by 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB of built in storage, but it’s expandable up to 32GB. It runs on the Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS.

Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia E1 featurs a 1.2GHz dual core Cortex A7 processor, which teams up with a Qualcomm MSM8210 Snapdragon 200 chipset and a newer version of Adreno GPU – 302. It also hosts 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 32GB and it comes loaded with Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS, but it’s planned to be upgraded to 4.4.2 (KitKat).

For battery and camera specs, both smartphones have Li-Ion removable batteries. The Nokia X’s battery has a capacity of 1500mAh and it should allow 10 hours and a half of talk time on 3G. The Sony Xperia E1 has a 1700mAh battery which allows less than 9 hours of talk time on 3G.

Both devices are equipped with a 3.15MP single shooter on the back, with not many features to enumerate. The Nokia X’s camera can record videos at 480p@30fps and it has a 1/5” sensor size and two other features such as panorama and face detection. The Sony Xperia E1 has geo-tagging, HDR, face and smile detection, panorama and image stabilization and it records videos at w480p@30fps.

The Nokia X cost $133 on amazon.com, while the Sony Xperia E1 costs $172.
