Giants Running Back David Wilson Forced To Retire From NFL After Aggravating Injury: A Look Back At A Career Interrupted

David Wilson exits his career gracefully- injured and accomplished.

The Giants' first- round pick in 2012 is not only out for the 2014 season, but he has also been advised never to play football again after a neck injury. Now here is a commemoration of the career he had, and should have.

"I'll be looking at my teammates this year and forever, wishing them the best," said Wilson, 23, according to the New York Daily News. "And every time I watch a Giants game or a football game and see people play that I actually had a chance to meet, I want to see them try to be great. Because it can be taken away. So when they go on the field I want to see them, every Sunday or Thursday or Monday, I want to see them guys be great, see them push themselves.

"That's where my joy will come from."

Wilson's tears began to fall down while he was talking.

"These are tears of joy, man," he said. "Don't for a second you all think that I'm pitying myself or sad, because I got to live my dream. ...

"These are tears of joy because as I speak I realize how much people have helped me along the way. When you push the pause button you can look at all that. But I plan on pushing play real soon."

Wilson played in 21 games and had 115 carries for 504 yards and 5 touchdowns- all in two NFL seasons.

"I don't want anybody to feel sorry for me, or pity me," he said earlier this week. "I lived my dream. A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream. Now I have a chance to dream another dream and live that, too."

According to Wikipedia, "Wilson attended George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia. As a senior he set a school record with 2,291 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns. In college, he attended Virginia Tech, both as a football and track and field varsity.

He started his career in the New York Giants in 2012, and it will end this year, 2014.
