Which device is the ideal purchase for consumers? We pit the Nokia Lumia 1520 against the Huawei Ascend P7 to see which is better.

For design and display, the Lumia 1520 has a 6 inches IPS LCD ClearBlack display which is capable of supporting a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and 367ppi. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2, weighs 209 grams and it measures 162.8×85.4×8.7 mm.

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a lot lighter, weighing 124 grams, but it’s also smaller, having a body size of 139.8×68.8×6.5 mm. The display is of 5 inches IPS LCD and it supports the same resolution as the Nokia unit, but the pixel density is higher at 441ppi. It’s also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

For hardware and OS, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is powered by a quad core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor, based on a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and it uses an Adreno 330 GPU. It is is supported by 2GB of RAM and the internal storage is either of 16 or 32GB, but with a microSD card for up to 64GB. It runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 OS, which is upgradeable to v8.1.

As for the Huawei Ascend P7, its processor is a quad core 1.8GHz Cortex A9, and it’s backed by a HiSilicon Kirin 910T and a Mali-450MP4 GPU. It hosts 2GB of RAM and an internal memory of 16GB, which is expandable up to 64GB and runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat).

For battery and camera specs, the Nokia Lumia 1520's battery has a capacity of 3400mAh, which lasts 25 hours when talking on 3G. The Huawei Ascend P7 has a Li-Po 2500mAh battery which should provide up to 14 hours of talktime on 3G.

The Lumia 1520 has a 20MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1/2.5” sensor and 1.12 µm pixel size, autofocus, LED flash, dual capture, face detection, geo tagging, panorama and which uses PureView technology. With this phone users can record videos at 1080p@30fps with optical stabilization. It has a 1.2MP secondary camera.

The rear camera is less advanced on the Ascend P7, which offers a resolution of 13MP and includes features such as autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo tagging, panorama, HDR, face and smile detection and video recording at 1080p@30fps. This phone is excellent for taking “selfies”, having an 8MP camera on the front.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 32GB variant cost $470, while the Huawei Ascend P7 costs $440 dollars.
