Certainly one of the most awaited follow up seasons is the one for True Detective. After a very successful first season that was highly praised by both critics and viewers alike, the crime drama that had two movie stars at its center -- Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
In the gaping hole left by the two acclaimed actors, who both got best actor nominations from the Emmy Awards, plenty of rumors have swirled about who will be True Detective season 2 cast. The series has been following the anthology form, and this will mean that the second season will feature a completely new story, cast, and setting. Names such as Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Benicio Del Toro, have all been attached to the show. Recently, a female name has come up, to play the lone female lead role -- Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss.
Show creator Nic Pizzolatto recently sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about True Detective season 2. He is quick to downplay expectations which are at a fever pitch already for upcoming season. "As a creator, you always have one eye on the back of the room, where you know they're loading their guns and building your gallows," Pizzolatto said in the interview. "You almost feel like issuing a disclaimer 'This show will not change your life.' "
For season 2, Pizzolatto has already announced that the story will be set in California. Rumor has it that the new story will involve a California highway patrolman, and that the other characters will be working for different branches of the government.
HBO execs have added fuel to the fire by saying that the True Detective cast will be announced real soon, and that the scripts on hand are very "exciting."
More substantial news on True Detective season 2 cast came in recently, with names like Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Friday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch said to be in deep talks to play the leads.
