In the upcoming film "Fashion King," f(x)'s Sulli plays Kwak Eun Jin, a girl who has a crush on Joo Won's character. She does what she can to win his heart, including giving herself a makeover.
While fans may have welcomed her film romance, in real life, the news that the singer was dating Dynamic Duo's Choiza has not gone over so well. Fans have left thousands of negative comments on sites and are said to be burning and ripping her pictures.
The couple were reported to be dating earlier this year and denied having a relationship. Their agencies only confirmed the relationship after a news outlet photographed them on a date together. After the couple was spotted together, SM Entertainment confirmed that the couple was in what they called a "supportive relationship." His agency, Amoeba Culture, clarified a previous statement, saying that the two were friends at first but are now in a relationship.
Choiza apologized for causing anyone to worry, saying, "We could not previously clarify the situation due to personal circumstances." He never wanted public news of their relationship to become a source of pain for Sulli, who already contends with malicious rumors and comments.
Some f(x) fans were not pleased, presumably because the couple previously denied their relationship.
The negative reaction of fans were so intense that it prompted Sulli to take a break from performing with f(x). She did not appear at the SMTOWN Live World Tour IV and the other members performed without her.
Her agency SM Entertainment said that they were respecting her wishes.
"We plan to protect our artist by minimizing her activities and giving her time to rest," said an SM representative.
However Sulli is in the middle of filming a movie and has her on-set and promotional film responsibilities. All the film's leading actors were scheduled to show up for a poster shoot but there have been conflicting reports about whether Sulli showed up at her appointed time or whether she will continue film promotions.
Netizen comments seemed to be overwhelmingly negative but a few were sympathetic. Some said it was time for her to stop being a celebrity since she can't deal with comments, while others said that what she does is a job. She has the right to leave if the job no longer fills her needs.
The film is based on the manga "Paeshyeonwang" and will be released in 2014.
