With Daredevil making its TV debut soon with Charlie Cox as the fearless hero in Hell's Kitchen, talks of a possible Defenders - Avengers crossover have been abuzz among Marvel fans.
According to Netflix' streaming service's chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, the possibility has indeed been discussed.
"It has definitely been talked about," Sarandos admitted to Empire Magazine, when asked about the project.
For now, however, the network will be working on bringing Hell's Kitchen's first crime-fighter to life. Marvel and Netflix will reportedly bring together the Defenders in the same way that the Avengers were introduced-individually.
This time, however, the four characters will have their own mini-series instead of films.
"It was really based on the theatrical model of the Avengers. Could you take another group of characters, the Defenders, and go about it the same way?" Sarandos said. "Normally they do the big movie and then eventually they get to the group origin story."
They chose to bring Defenders to TV, however, to highlight each member's origin story. Daredevil will start next year, promptly followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist's own series.
Sarandos explained, "Having 13 hours to tell each of these stories, you can go right to the origin story and the action at the same time."
What we love about this particular set of heroes is that they're a little more down-to-Earth," Sarandos expounded on Marvel's Defenders. "Costume-wise and also in that these are gritty crime stories, more in the streets than in the clouds."
With Marvel's five-series contract, the Defenders and Avengers crossover could happen after all the members come together as a group in the fifth mini-series.
Sarandos also shared that they plan to make this version of the fearless hero darker and grittier than Ben Affleck's 2003 film version.
With the different media used, will a Defenders - Avengers Crossover be possible for Marvel?
