ESD America found the circulation of such fake towers across the country, as reported by Top Tech News. ESD America manufactures Cryptophone 500. Cryptophone is an Android phone whose encryption features are able to identify mobile hack activities.

ESD discovered a fake cell phone tower in the borders dividing North Carolina and Florida. Additionally, one of these towers was also discovered in South Point Casino in Las Vegas.

Top Tech News reported that the towers were technically referred to as IMSI-catchers. They prey on hacking mobile data and activities by disabling the vulnerable security in the 2G communication tool.

The fake towers impersonate the real phone carrier's towers. Afterwards, they deceive the mobile units so they can connect to them. Mobile servers don't detect that the encryption of the phones have been disabled by the fake towers. This makes it easy for such culprits to hack the mobile units undetected.
