Former Brazil and Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho has signed a deal with Mexico's Queretaro. He will be in contract with the Queretaro for two years.
Ronaldinho who was awarded the World Player of the Year for two times has just become a free agent last July after cancelling his contract with Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro. He has also played for Paris St Germain and AC Milan.
According to the statement sent out by the club "We are very pleased to add to our ranks as of today, a player who has excelled in international football. A world champion in 2002, World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005. We hope the fans of our city and around the country join in this celebration of having Ronaldinho as a Gallos who will contribute his experience and expertise to further strengthen this great team."
Queretaro, coached by former Mexico defender Ignacio Ambriz, are currently eighth in Liga MX after seven matches in the championship.
Ronaldinho will be wearing his lucky number shirt 49 when he plays for Mexico. He also tweeted his transfer online. He wrote "I've always been received with affection in Mexico - I am very motivated to represent Queretaro."
He added "I chose Mexico for the affection I have always received here. I am very motivated to represent."
team owner Olegario Vazquez also welcomed Ronaldinho via a twitter post. He wrote "I am pleased to share with you that from today, the star @10Ronaldinho is a rooster. It strengthens a great team, the fans deserve it."
Ronaldinho's full name is Ronaldo de Assis Moreira. His main playing position is as an attacking midfielder or forward. He won the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2004 and 2005. Renowned for his technique, tricks, dribbling, overhead kicks, no-look passes and free kicks, Ronaldinho is regarded to be one of the best players of his generation.
Ronaldinho becomes the seventh Brazilian past World Cup winner to join Mexico's top flight over the years. Aside from him, other Brazilian players who joined Mexico are Vava, who played for Club America, Didi, who went to Veracruz, and Bebeto, who played for Toros Neza.
