Kim Hyun Joong has issued a formal apology to his ex-girlfriend but will it be enough to end the assault charges against him?
The former girlfriend accused the singer-actor of four incidents of assault but according to Kim Hyun Joong and his agency, the couple only had one physical fight.
According to TV Report, her lawyer Sun Jong Mun, from the law firm of Sun & Partners, said that the girlfriend, known only as "A," asked the singer to take full responsibility and apologize for his actions. But the couple disagrees on exactly what those actions are. If his apology does not satisfy her she will proceed with her charges.
"Currently, we demand Kim Hyun Joong to self-reflect and apologize for the multiple times he physically assaulted her, and admit the assaults took place," said the statement by Sun Jong Mun. "If he does not do so, we have no choice but to submit additional material and inquire into the actual state of events. If needed, we will agree on conducting a cross-examination. The main goal is to reveal the truth. Thus, he must admit his wrongdoing and apologize first."
On Sept. 15 Kim Hyun Joong posted an apology on his official homepage.
"Hello, this is Kim Hyun Joong. I′m really sorry for giving the person I believed and loved for two years a lot of mental and physical pain," wrote Kim Hyun Joong. "I′m embarrassed at myself for doing something that a man should never do. Since this incident occurred entirely because of my mistakes, there is no reason for her to be blamed. I want to also say sorry to her family and friends. More than anything, I hope she will accept my apology and forgive me. As a result of this incident, I'll work harder to become a better and healthier person."
The apology does not specifically address A's claim that there were multiple incidents of assault.
According to Newsen the lawyers are considering the apology.
"It is exceptional that a celebrity admits to the allegations after being charged," said Sun Jong Mun. "The plaintiff must now assess the sincerity of Kim Hyun Joong's apology, and then decide whether to drop the charges or not. As we originally wanted Kim Hyun Joong to admit to the physical assaults, self-reflect, and apologize, we are actively inquiring into dropping the charges without any terms."
Do you think the apology adequately addresses the concerns of Kim Hyun Joong's former girlfriend? Do you think his admission will negatively affect his career?
