Apparently, right after Kevin Love was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers and he was replaced by no 1 draft Andrew Wiggins, Ricky Rubio sent a text message to Love wishing him well. After which, Love replied. There was no call, no personal appearance, just a text message. Technology.
According to Rubio in an interview with Yahoo Sports "I have to be thankful for everything he did for me. Coming from Europe to the NBA, it is not easy. Having the superstar give you the head's-up on things, look out for you ... I appreciate it."
He added "But in the end, it didn't work out and we move on. He's always going to be a great memory with me. Not just the way we played together, because it was fun but it's the way he accepted me from day one."
That is why Minnesota president and coach Flip Saunders immediately made a decision to extend the rookie contract of Rubio. New has it that Saunders is currently in talk with Rubio's agent Dan Fegan with regards to this matter. If no clear deal will be made, Rubio will become a restricted free agent next summer.
He said "I'm loyal. I want to give them back what they gave me there: a lot of love."
But as of the moment, Rubio is still working his way back to the game after his ACL injury. He missed the chance of joining the US National Team in the recently concluded FIBA World Cup and their team also lost a big part of their lineup.
He added "When you lose a year or nine months, you lose a lot of muscle. You lose the feel and rhythm of the game. You lose quickness. It doesn't come back right away. It comes with time. It comes with work."
For now, the Minnesota Timberwolves needs to revamp their lineup for the incoming NBA Season. Even Rubio knows that it s a trying time for his team saying "It's a really tough time right now." But everyone needs to move on and move forward and that is what Love, Rubio and the rest of the Timberwolves are doing right now.
