Actress Emma Watson has found herself the target of nude photo leak threats after giving an empowering speech at the United Nations and successfully launching the HeForShe initiative, according to The Huffington Post.
Fortunately, the 4chan page that was aimed at exposing the nude photos of the "Harry Potter" actress reportedly turned out to be a hoax by Rantic Marketing, according to the NY Daily News.
After millions of people visited the page "Emma You Are Next" and shared it through social media yesterday, the page was eventually redirected to Rantic with a message focused on shutting down 4chan, the website the reportedly hosted the stolen, personal nude photos of several female celebrities.
Now when people click the link, they will see #SHUTDOWN4CHAN followed by a slideshow of various messages regarding closing down the site.
"SPREAD THE WORD! Join us as we shutdown 4chan and prevent more private pictures from being leaked. None of these women deserve this and together we can make a change," the next page reads.
The marketing firm reportedly posted a message to President Obama explaining the purpose behind the prank targeting Emma Watson.
"We have been hired by celebrity publicists to bring this disgusting issue to attention," the note read.
It continued, "The recent 4chan celebrity nude leaks in the past 2 months have been an invasion of privacy and is also clear indication that the Internet NEEDS to be censored. Every Facebook like, share & Twitter mention will count as a social signature - and will be (a) step closer to shutting down www.4chan.org."
Celebrities have used social media to support Emma Watson and her fight for gender equality as well.
"You are impeccable & extraordinary. I stand with you. I believe in gender equality. #heforshe," wrote "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston.
