According to the supporters of Dancing with the Stars, one way to step up the performance on the show is to have a look of 'chemistry' between the dancers. Radar Online reported sources saying, "They looked like they were about to hook up," adding, "They looked like they were getting hot and steamy on the dance floor."

The source continued to say, "They spend so much time together and they are so touchy feely and all over each other," the source added. "It happens sometimes on the show." This is pretty much how Maks was described during his escapade with Meryl Davis.

However sources also noted that Dancing with the Stars relationships are temporary and do not outlast the show. "It's a short-lived romance," the source continued. "You spend so much time with that person and then it's over." Maksim Chmerkovskiy often refers to this as 'showmance,' when asked about his own relationships.

"The only way that Val works well with someone, he has to have chemistry with his partner," Radar reported the source as saying. "And the last time Val was flirtatious was with Kelly ... Kelly and him went to the finals. And on screen now, it looks like he has chemistry with Janel."
