"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison on conspiracy and bankruptcy fraud charges yesterday morning.
Judge Esther Salas, who sentenced both Teresa and Joe Giudice, reportedly had a difficult time getting the documents necessary for the case.
Before the sentencing, Teresa Giudice was reportedly instructed to fill out her financial disclosure form, but failed to list seveal of her persoal items, inluding househould furnishings, a 2006 Ford F-250 truck, a cement mixer and several other vehicles, according to Us Magazine.
"Getting this financial information that I need to judge the case was like pulling teeth, it was the most difficult in all my years as a judge and as a lawyer," stated Judge Salas.
Despite the difficulties before the sentencing, Judge Salas still allowed the reality television stars to serve time separately so at least of them would be able to act as a parent to their four daughters.
"Mr. Giudice was the captain and he will have to live with the sentence I gave him. The first mate deserves a little bit of a break. You, quite frankly, display genuine remorse. At the end of the day, I think you finally got it. You finally woke up. I think a slight variance is warranted," Judge Salas stated in court.
The sentencing of Teresa and Joe Giudice has brought light on to the perceived leniency that celebrities get in the courtroom, according to Fox News.
"I need to send a message that it isn't who you are, how famous you are. If you do somehting wrong, there will be consequences to pay," Judge Salas stated.
