Google Nexus 8 Release Date Announced For December 16 Launch; Specs, Features, Display, Battery Life, Performance And Price Confirmed

The Google Nexus 8 release date has been revealed and we are here to pit the Google Nexus 8 specs and features vs the Google Nexus 7 specs and features. Should you upgrade?

The Motoring Crunch reports that the Google Nexus 8 is said to have a display of 8.9 inches which offers 2048 x 1440 resolution, while the Nexus 7 should arrive with a 7 inch IPS LCD display offering around 1200 x 1920 resolution. The Nexus should offer 241ppi and the Nexus 7 323ppi.

There is impressive resolution along with pixel strength and they should not offer images and video that is vivid and impressive. The Nexus 8 will have a design that is aluminium zero gap, while the panel of the Nexus 7 has a strip of glass in black which covers the screen and which blends into the rubberized plastic of the rear panel.

It is said that the Nexus 8 has the codename of the Volantis/Flounder and weighs 418g and has a thickness of 0.31 inches. The Nexus 7 should come in at around 290 g and be 0.34 inches in thickness.

The Nexus 8 is said to possess the NVIDIA Logan 64 bit processor, which is the Tegra K1, along with 2GB of RAM. While the Nexus 7 could have the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, which is quad core and clocked in at 1.5GHz, with 2GB of RAM. The Nexus 8 should have Android 5 when it arrives and it is thought that the Nexus 7 will have Jelly Bean 4.3, which can be upgraded to KitKat 4.4.3.

Both of these Nexus tablets will be offered with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. The Nexus 7 will not support SD card but it is thought that the Nexus 8 will.

The 2013 Nexus 7 has the 3950 battery that is not removable, at the moment we don't know what battery to expect with the Nexus 8. The Nexus 7 should offer around 9 hours of viewing video and photos.

There is a 5MP camera on the back of the Nexus 7 along with one of 1.2MP on the front. The Nexus 8 will have an 8MP and 3MP on the front.

The tablets will be offered in LTE or Wi-Fi only and they should have support for NFC.

The Nexus 7 32GB LTE will have a price tag of AU$398 while the Nexus 8 Wi-Fi 16GB comes in at around $US399. The LTE variation is thought to cost upwards of US$600.

The Google Nexus 8 release date is said to be on December 16, 2014 of this year as reported by The Motoring Crunch
