Windows 10 Release Date Late 2015: Free For Win8 Users, 'Most Comprehensive Platform Ever', 'Internet Of Things', Live Tiles, Resize Start Menu

According to published reports, Windows 10 will be the next in line in the Windows series, skipping the 9 edition altogether. Microsoft touts Windows 10 as "the most comprehensive platform ever" and it will be equipped with a full range of products, making the next Windows a uniquely packed "one tailored experience."

Full range of products refers to support for the "Internet of Things" to enterprise servers, since it has an open-ended design. Tech analysts describe Windows 10 platform as a combination of the user-friendly Windows 7 with the tight functionality of Windows 8, which didn't click with Windows users. For this reason Microsoft will follow Apple's strategy on offering Windows 10 for free to all Windows 8 users.

Joe Belfiore of Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft demonstrated a beta edition of Windows 10 to about 50 reporters and descriptions of the Windows OS say that the Windows 10 in action looks similar to the screenshot leaks that appeared on the Web recently.

Engadget reported, The new Windows will look very familiar if you're used to either of the last two versions, though Win8 users will notice that the Modern UI is nowhere to be seen at first (more on this later). Instead, the series of Live Tiles can be found in the Start Menu off to the right side, with the usual Win7-style set of pinned and frequent apps on the left side, along with web and app search underneath.

The report added, "Not only can the tiles be resized, but also the Start Menu can likewise be resized as well. Microsoft said you can even expand the menu to go beyond the boundaries of your monitor, so you can scroll to the left and right to see the entire lineup of apps and tiles."

The Windows 10 team at Microsoft revealed just a few pieces of the Windows 10 puzzle at the conference with the reporters, but they will continue to add more bits and pieces as Microsoft prepares for a fall launch in 2015.
