Lee Byung Hun has publicly apologized to his wife Lee Min Jung. He left Korea on Oct. 20 to attend a meeting in Hollywood. It was the first time he appeared before reporters since the news broke early in September about his reported blackmail attempt.

He told reporters that he felt apologetic towards those he disappointed and he felt deeply regretful.

"In particular, I am sorry to my wife and family," said Lee Byung Hun. "I will try to heal the wounds that my wife sustained."

GLAM's Dahee and model Lee Ji Yeon appeared in court on Oct. 16 and acknowledged that they attempted to blackmail the actor with video footage in which he engaged in a sexually suggestive conversation. Dahee claimed that the blackmail attempt happened because Lee Ji Yeon was involved in a relationship with Lee Byung Hun and he broke it off. Lee Byung Hun said that there was no relationship and, although he admits to seeing the women socially several times, says he told them he no longer wanted to see them when he became aware of their financial problems. When the women said that they would release the footage to the media outlet Dispatch unless he gave them $5 million, he reported them to the police.

There is no word on the degree of damage the scandal has done to his marriage with Lee Min Jung. Then couple married in Aug. 2013. She took a trip to Paris during the scandal and after coming back to Korea did not return to her marital home. She has been living with her parents.

"I will do my best to recover the wounds that my wife sustained," said Lee Byung Hun. "I will resignedly accept the criticism about myself. However, I will try to take decisive measures against incorrect claims and do my best to correct them."

The actor previously posted a letter of apology on the Facebook page of his agency, BH Entertainment. In that letter he apologized to both his fans and his family.

In the letter he said, "Above all, and what hurts my heart the most, is that I have greatly disappointed my precious loved ones. I will do what I can to prevent any more disappointments to my wife and family who have been by my side despite having received much attention, pain and difficulties because of me. "

While he is in the U.S., Lee Byung Hun will attend a meeting related to the next G.I. Joe film. He starred in "G. I. Joe: Retaliation" with Bruce Willis.
