Jensen Ackles has directed several episodes of 'Supernatural' throughout its decade-long run. He directed season six, episode four's 'Weekend at Bobby's' as well as season seven, episode three's 'The Girl Next Door.'
The last time he sat on the director's chair, however, was in season eight when he helmed the third episode, 'Heartache.'
Ackles was not able to helm any episodes in season nine due to his wife's pregnancy and the subsequent birth of his daughter. This season, however, Entarz revealed that the actor-director will have another shot at the job.
Entitled 'Soul Survivor,' this new episode will be an interesting challenge for Ackles who will have to act as a bloodthirsty demon as well as direct the entire episode.
In fact, this season looks to be taking on a darker turn with Dean (Ackles) slowly turning into a full-fledged demon, Sam (Jared Padalecki) doing everything he can to cure him, and Castiel dying, as he runs out of borrowed grace.
On the second episode, Dean finally acknowledged that he's a demon after being goaded by Crowley to pick a side. Will he be choosing to become a real demon now? Or will Sam be able to cure him?
According to Jensen Ackles himself, Dean is actually "enjoying being awful."
He told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that "it's less about [Dean] being demonic and evil and sinister, and it's much more about him being carefree and jovial and doing things regardless of the consequences."
Whether fans are enjoying Demon Dean or not, Ackles revealed that it won't last the whole season.
"We don't want to see a whole season of 'Supernatural' without one of its main characters," he said. "So Dean will eventually come back into the fold and will be saved by some miraculous event."
When that will be, viewers will have to watch the show as the story unfolds.
How excited are you to see what Jensen Ackles has in store for 'Soul Survivor?'
'Supernatural' season 10 airs every Tuesday, 9PM on the CW.
