Marysville Pilchuck High School student Jaylen Fryberg was reportedly identified as the shooter at the rampage that occurred on Friday morning, which led to the death of one girl and four other freshman students, according to Reuters.
Although the 14-year-old's motives are still unknown, there was reportedly some conflict before last week's shooting.
Classmates and parents reportedly stated that Jaylen Fryberg, who was a football player, recently had a dispute on the field over a remark made during practice.
"[Jaylen] broke the kid's nose," stated Rebecca Cooley, whose son played football with Fryberg.
She added, "A lot of the football players stepped in during this fight."
There were also reportedly hints of recent rejection and possibly betrayal, evident on the student's social media.
"Sooo, Our having a kid. And trying to talk to someone else? Hahaha. Your dumb. Oh!! And she's way younger then you? T'F wrong with you!," wrote Jaylen Fryberg on his Twitter account on September 19, according to The Blaze.
He reportedly later added, "Did you forget she was my girlfriend?"
Fryberg continued with posts on the same day, writing, "Dude. She tells me everything. And now. I f***king HATE you! Your no longer my 'Brother'!"
Bella Panjeli, a ninth-grade student at a different school who said she was a friend of one of the female victims, reportedly stated that there may have been a cause for heartbreak.
"I heard he asked her out, and she rebuffed him and was with his cousin," stated Panjeli.
The two male victims in the shooting were Nate Hatch and Andrew Fryberg, Jaylen Fryberg's cousins, according to NBC News. The two female victims were reportedly identified as Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Gia Soriano. The female student who was killed reportedly has not been identified yet.
"They are all just a little bit older today, and that makes me sad," stated Cindy Honeyman whose son Isaac reportedly had to take shelter in a classroom during the shooting.
