Star Wars Battlefront is expected to be launched by summer of 2015 however it was moved by a few months, according to Eurogamer, Electronic Arts has announced its December release date via Twitter. The "major first-person shooter" will coincide with JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode 7 that premieres December of 2015.
Polygon reported in 2013 that chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen offered a clearer window for Battlefront's release in Electronic Art's annual meeting of stockholders, saying the Battlefront will most likely coincide with the movie's release.
"DICE's Battlefront will most likely come out around the same time that the Star Wars [sequel] movies start to come out" Jorgensen said.
Reportedly, Andrew Wilson, EA's CEO made the recent announcement during a conference call to investors following the release of the company's Q2 2015 financial results.
According to Eurogamer, Wilson said the next Battlefield game from developer DICE, presumably called Battlefield 5, will release in the last quarter of 2016.
"Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch," he said. As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it's clear that players want to experience the games we're delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles."
Reportedly, EA confirmed March 2015 for Visceral's offshoot Battlefield Hardline launch.
"Following this launch, our next Battlefield experience is planned for launch in Q3 FY17," Wilson added. "We want to give Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline players more time to enjoy these games and immerse themselves in a game, the live service, and the community."
Q3 FY2017 tracks October to December 2016 period.
Electronic Arts signed a deal with Disney in May 2013 to secure exclusive video game rights to the Star Wars franchise, which Disney acquired from Lucasfilm in Oct. 2012.
